How To | Using dry contact/relay closures as an output

Save time and effort by learning how to reliably enable dry contact output and receive trigger signals using GPIO connections.

Updated at March 31st, 2025

Procedure

Note

Only the following devices have in-built relay outputs:

  • Core 510
  • I/O Frame

On each of the DA-15 connections on a Core 510 or I/O Frame, there is a dedicated relay output with normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO) connections.

In order to trigger the relay from within Q-SYS:

  1. Drag in the GPIO component into the schematic.
  2. Expose the "Relay Out" control pin.
  3. Connect a toggle button or create your own custom control to alter the relay state.

Tip

You can select the GPIO component and hit the F1 key on your keyboard for additional information from the "Help File".

Additional

Q-SYS now also have the QIO-LVR4 which has four relay outputs that can also be used for dry contacts/ relay outputs in this way.
