Resolving Firmware Downgrade Issues by Allowing Legacy Unsigned Firmware in Core Manager

Q-SYS Core
Software
Firmware versions prior to v9.1.x

Problem | Symptoms

When attempting to downgrade a Q-SYS Core to a version prior to v9.1.x, you encounter an error message indicating that the Core is expecting signed firmware. The firmware you are trying to upload (v9.0.1 or earlier) is unsigned, causing the downgrade to fail.

Causes | Verification

The issue arises because firmware signing was introduced in version 9.1.x. The Core expects signed firmware, but versions 9.0.1 or earlier are unsigned. This mismatch leads to the error during the downgrade attempt.

Solution | Workaround

To resolve this issue, you need to allow the Core to accept legacy unsigned firmware. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Q-SYS Core Manager.
  2. From the navigation menu, click Utilities.
  3. In the Firmware section, select Allow Legacy Unsigned Firmware (v9.0.1 or lower). Do not reboot the Core.
  4. Attempt the downgrade again.
