Awareness | Dell iDRAC Firmware Update/Reboot/Reset and how it affects Q-SYS

Information

On Dell Enterprise Cores, the Q-SYS settings are wiped and returned to factory defaults when the iDRAC firmware is updated/rebooted/reset. See below for the list of settings known to be affected:

  • Network Settings
    • LAN A/B IPs are set to DHCP
    • AUX A/B are turned off
  • Hostname within Q-SYS is returned to the name assigned during production 
  • Running Design is wiped
    • After iDRAC has completed the update/reboot/reset, the Core will no longer be running a design
  • Backed Up Designs are wiped

iDRAC Update

This option performs an update of the iDRAC firmware. The firmware versions can be accessed and downloaded via Dell's website (dell.com/support); allowing to update (or downgrade) the iDRAC firmware to a newer (or older) version.


iDRAC Reboot

This option performs a “Soft Reset” of the iDRAC. Closing all existing sessions of iDRAC; but shouldn't affect the Server Host operations.


iDRAC Reset

This option performs a “Hard Reset” of the iDRAC. Closing all existing sessions of iDRAC and returning iDRAC to Factory Defaults. This command allows the user to select one of the following options:

  • Preserve user and network settings. 
  • Discard all settings and reset the users to shipping value (root/shipping value).
  • Discard all settings and reset username and password.
  • Discard all settings and set to Custom default configuration (Custom configuration file must be uploaded.
