Preparation

• These loudspeaker models all have injection molded enclosures made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and perforated steel grilles. These enclosures and grilles can be painted to match any decor. For the best results, use proper painting techniques and a paint system suitable for ABS. Seek advice and materials from a reputable paint supplier.
• On the underside of the loudspeaker grille is a black grille cloth, which is removed prior to painting. To preserve ingress protection, you will need to install a new grille cloth during reassembly later in the procedure. Order a new grille cloth appropriate for the loudspeaker model at QSC Spare Parts, by calling 1-800-772-2834, or by opening a Support Request.

Procedure

1. Remove the grille from the enclosure and peel off its grille cloth.
2. On the front of the enclosure, completely mask the speaker while being careful not to apply tape directly to the driver cone or surround.
3. On the back of the enclosure, mask the input panel and connectors.
4. Fully mask the back of the grille.
5. Wash the enclosure and grille with mild soap and hot water and rinse with hot water. Be careful not to allow any water or soap into the input, woofer, horn, ID LED, and reset button. Allow them to dry thoroughly.
6. Scuff-sand the front of the grille and the enclosure surfaces using 320 to 400 grit sandpaper or a 3M Scotch-Brite 7447 abrasive hand pad or equivalent.
7. Use compressed air to clean all dust from the enclosure and grille.
8. Clean the grille and the enclosure surfaces.
9. Use a clean, lint-free white cloth to apply a suitable prep solution to the enclosure surfaces.
10. Apply adhesion promoter to the enclosure surfaces.
11. Apply the primer topcoat to the front of the grille and to the enclosure surfaces.
12. Apply the paint to the enclosure.
13. Before you paint the grille, thin the paint as needed so it will not block the perforations as it is applied. Apply paint to the front of the grille.
14. Allow the painted enclosure and grille to dry for at least eight hours before handling.
15. Remove the masking from the back of the grille and spray it with a light tack adhesive.
16. Carefully lay the new grille cloth in place on the back of the grille.
17. Remove the masking from the loudspeaker enclosure and reinstall the loudspeaker grille.
