Problem | Symptoms

  • Dante devices not appearing or populating intermittently
  • Dante devices appearing briefly and then disappearing in Dante Controller
  • Dante subscriptions failing to establish or dropping unexpectedly
  • Dante‑enabled microphones or endpoints not visible
  • Partial or complete loss of audio over Dante

Causes | Verification

Discovery and subscription failures are almost always network‑related and can be caused by one or more of the following conditions:

IP Addressing Issues

  • Duplicate IP addresses
  • DHCP lease changes or expirations
  • Devices on different subnets or VLANs without proper routing or multicast forwarding
  • Incorrect subnet masks or gateways causing partial connectivity

Multicast Configuration Problems

  • IGMP snooping disabled or misconfigured
  • No active IGMP querier on the Dante VLAN
  • Multicast traffic blocked by ACLs or security policies
  • Inconsistent VLAN configuration across switches

QoS Misconfiguration

  • Dante DSCP values not trusted or incorrectly remarked
  • No AV‑optimized QoS profile applied
  • Network congestion affecting discovery and subscription traffic

Clocking & PTP Issues

  • Multiple devices attempting to operate as PTP Grandmaster
  • Unexpected PTP priority behavior
  • PTP traffic blocked or deprioritized
  • AES67/PTP modes enabled unintentionally

  • Switch ports negotiating to 100 Mbps instead of 1 Gbps
  • PoE power instability
  • Faulty cables or switch ports
  • MTU mismatches between devices or switches

Security, Software, & Topology Factors

  • Required Dante or Q‑SYS ports blocked by firewalls or ACLs
  • Security policies restricting multicast or dynamic UDP traffic
  • Endpoint firewalls, VPNs, or NIC security software impacting Dante Controller or DVS
  • Incompatible firmware or software versions
  • Known software bugs (e.g., DVS or failover scenarios)
  • Inconsistent switch configuration, spanning‑tree issues, or partial network failures during redundancy testing

Solution | Workaround

  • Verified unique IP addressing and eliminated DHCP/static IP conflicts.
  • Confirmed all Dante devices were on the same subnet and VLAN with correct gateway settings.
  • Ensured IGMP snooping was enabled and an active IGMP querier was present.
  • Validated QoS configuration and Dante DSCP prioritization.
  • Checked PTP clocking to ensure a single, stable Grandmaster.
  • Verified switch ports negotiated at 1 Gbps, PoE power was stable, and cabling was error‑free.
  • Confirmed required Dante and Q‑SYS ports were not blocked by network or endpoint security.
  • Confirmed External Config is set to yes on Software Dante blocks and check device info, clock shift events and leader and all settings on Dante Controller as well
  • Reviewed firmware, software versions, and network topology for known issues.

Validation

  • Dante devices populated consistently and remained visible in Dante Controller.
  • Dante subscriptions established successfully and remained stable.
  • Dante‑enabled microphones and endpoints appeared as expected.
  • Audio passed reliably without dropouts or clocking errors.

Result

After addressing the underlying network configuration issues, discovery and subscription behavior stabilized. Dante devices populated consistently, subscriptions established successfully, and reliable Dante audio functionality was restored.
