Procedure

There are several possible reasons, so additional tests are needed to narrow down where the problem lies:

  1. Start by connecting the PC directly to the Core, making sure the PC and the Core have IPs in the same range (the Core's IP can be found using its front panel controls).
  2. Then, open Configurator within Designer.
  3. Does the Core appear?

Yes

No

Then the issue is likely network-related, such as a bad cable OR a switch configuration issue, such as a multicast configuration preventing discovery packets from reaching the PC.

  1. Go back to Designer and add a Hard Link (under File > Preferences) for the Core.
  2. When added, a little icon appears next to the IP address. If that is green, that means the Core is online.

Still cannot see the Core

If you cannot see the Core when directly connected but can see it when a Hard Link is added, the issue is likely a firewall problem on your PC.

If you are using a third-party firewall, make sure Designer is given full access to the network.

If you are using Windows Defender Firewall, do the following:

  1. Delete the Hard Link previously created above.
  2. Go to the Windows firewall "Advanced Settings" page and select the "Inbound Rules".
  3. Find entries for Designer and delete them.
  4. Close all instances of Designer and then run a copy of each installed version.
  5. During the start-up process, a firewall message will appear. Make sure that all options are selected before you click "Allow".
  6. Configurator should now discover the Core.
